Dr. Elissa P. Benedek was the second woman to serve as President of the American Psychiatry Association. She has achieved a full professorship at both the University of Michigan and Wayne State University, as well as clinical professorship at Michigan State University.

Dr. Benedek’s passion for education led her to serve as an administrator of a pre-adolescent inpatient unit at the Center for Forensic Psychiatry. She has also published several books on child, adolescent and forensic psychiatry, in addition to numerous articles and book chapters.

Dr. Benedek’s expertise includes child sexual abuse, child custody, toxic torts, as well as employment issues such as wrongful termination and fitness to work. She has also testified multiple times in depositions and courts involving issues of incarceration, criminal responsibility, and competency.
