Shafi Lodhi, MD

Dr. Shafi Lodhi is a forensic neuropsychiatrist with an extensive academic and professional background. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Arts in History, Bachelor of Science in Biology, and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. Lodhi completed his General Psychiatry training at the University of Cincinnati, where he served as Chief Resident of Psychiatric Emergency Services in his final year. He pursued additional fellowship training in neuropsychiatry and forensic psychiatry with a focus on neurolaw at Stanford University.​

Throughout his career, Dr. Lodhi has provided psychiatric care in various settings such as inpatient psychiatric facilities, forensic state hospitals, emergency rooms, outpatient clinics, prisons, and jails. He has specialized expertise in delivering care virtually and has been involved in telepsychiatry since 2019, serving clients at a Silicon Valley startup, a Medi-Cal community health clinic in Los Angeles County, a county jail, and a health clinic in rural Ohio.​

As the founder of Bay Area Neuropsychiatry, Dr. Lodhi established the only insurance-accepting neuropsychiatry practice in Northern California. In addition to general psychiatric treatment, Dr. Lodhi specializes in working with patients suffering from neuropsychiatric conditions such as traumatic brain injuries, neurodegenerative disorders, and executive function disorders. Dr. Lodhi has a particular interest in working with professionals, notably physicians and elite athletes, and is a member of the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s Mental Health Registry.

He has been qualified as an expert in the Santa Clara County court and in hearings for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He assesses emotional distress, mental health injuries, and brain injury concerns. He also has specialized experience in working with patients who are Muslim and those with an Indian or Pakistani background.

A dedicated advocate for human rights, Dr. Lodhi volunteers with Physicians for Human Rights – Asylum Network, conducting forensic assessments of victims of kidnapping and false imprisonment, human trafficking, undue influence, physical and sexual abuse, and rape. He has presented at national conferences such as the American Psychiatric Association and published in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Lodhi has also delivered grand rounds and served as a speaker at national conferences on topics ranging from ADHD to the use of imaging in the courtroom.

Dr. Lodhi is a member of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL) Neuropsychiatry Committee and the American Professional Society of ADHD and Related Disorders (APSARD) Education Committee.
