Cortney A. Kohberger, MD
Dr. Kohberger graduated from Rutgers College – Rutgers University with a B.A. in psychology. After attending the post-baccalaureate, pre-medical program at Bryn Mawr College, she earned her Medical Degree from The University Of Medicine and Dentistry – New Jersey Medical School, in Newark, New Jersey. She completed her residency and chief residency at the Beth Israel Medical Center – Albert Einstein School of Medicine, in downtown Manhattan.
Following residency, Dr. Kohberger was an assistant clinical professor at the New York University School of Medicine, while working at the Bellevue Hospital Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP). She served her city for ten years as an emergency and community psychiatrist, working in a variety of settings including the Bellevue CPEP, mobile crisis, homeless shelters, supportive housing, and homeless street outreach. She served for five years as the attending psychiatrist on the Center for Alternative Sentencing and Employment Services, Assertive Community Treatment team, an intensive alternative to incarceration program for the seriously mentally ill.
She then moved to Cleveland, Ohio to complete the Case Western Reserve University forensic psychiatry fellowship, under the supervision of Dr. Phil Resnick. She remains in Ohio, where she has been running a Competency Restoration unit at Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare, a State of Ohio forensic psychiatric hospital. As a part of her work at Northocoast, she has written hundreds of court reports and testified in various hearings on more than 85 occasions. As a faculty member of the Case Western Reserve Department of Psychiatry, she supervises forensic psychiatry fellows.
In addition to her work at the state hospital, Dr. Kohberger practices private clinical and forensic psychiatry. This work has included mitigation of penalty reports, disability evaluations, fitness for duty evaluations, threat assessments, guardianship evaluations, and medical malpractice.
Dr. Kohberger is double boarded by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both General and Forensic Psychiatry.
Dr. Kohberger has been an independent contractor to fpamed since 2024.
