Amanie Salem, DO, MPH
Dr. Amanie Salem was the first graduate of Saint Louis University’s Bachelor of Science in Public Health and continued there as the first graduate of Saint Louis University’s combined undergraduate and graduate curriculum, earning a Master of Public Health one year later. She subsequently pursued a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and returned to Saint Louis University for a residency in psychiatry. She completed her subspeciality fellowship training in child and adolescent psychiatry at NewYork-Presbyterian in New York City and her subspecialty fellowship training in forensic psychiatry at the University of California, Davis.
Dr. Salem is Board-Certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with Certification in the subspeciality of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and is licensed to practice medicine in California, New York, and Missouri. She is broadly trained and experienced in the psychiatric assessment of adults, adolescents, and children. She has provided various levels of psychiatric care including in the areas of school consultation, emergency, correctional, inpatient, and outpatient psychiatry.
Dr. Salem has performed numerous forensic psychiatric evaluations and has been qualified as an expert in the field of psychiatry in adult and juvenile courts in California. She has completed various forensic psychiatric evaluations, including court-ordered cases and private consultations. She has also provided expert testimony at trial in Yolo County, California.
Dr. Salem is a member of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), and American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL). She currently serves on APA’s Council for Children, Adolescents, and their Families, on AACAP’s Bylaws Committee, and AAPL’s Program Committee and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Law Committee. In 2021, she was awarded the Rappeport Fellowship by AAPL, granted annually to six outstanding residents with interests in psychiatry and the law.
As a forensic expert, Dr. Salem applies evidence-based assessment to integration of psychiatry and law in each evaluation or consultation.
