Patricia Westmoreland, MD
Patricia Westmoreland MD practices general psychiatry and forensic psychiatry in Denver, CO. She received her medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, and completed her residencies in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry at the University of Iowa, where she also completed an Endocrinology Fellowship. Dr. Westmoreland completed her Forensic Fellowship at the University of Colorado, and has practiced in Denver since 2012. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, General Psychiatry, Psychosomatic Medicine, and Forensic Psychiatry. She is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (DFAPA), Past President of the Colorado Psychiatric Society (CPS), and past Chair of the Colorado Psychiatric Society Legislative Committee. She is the legislative liaison from the Colorado Psychiatric Society to the Colorado Medical Society. Dr. Westmoreland served as the Deputy Representative from Area 7 to the APA Assembly and served as trustee-at-large to the APA Board. She is a member of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL) and the AAPL Alternate Delegate to the American Medical Association (AMA). Dr. Westmoreland has worked on a wide range of criminal and civil cases and specializes in cases related to women’s behavioral health and the psychiatric sequelae of medical injuries. Dr. Westmoreland’s scholarly interests include psychiatric management of medically ill patients, women’s behavioral health, and the intersection between psychiatry and the law. Her publications reflect her interest in these topics, and she is the editor of Tipping the scales: ethical and legal dilemmas in managing severe eating disorders (APA Press 2020).
