In 2013, the American Psychiatric Association (www.psychiatry.org) revised its ethical guidelines which generally consists of the Principles of Medical Ethics outlined by the American Medical Association (www.ama-assn.org) as applied to the practice of Psychiatry.

Ethics Guidelines for the Practice of Forensic Psychiatry

The American Academy of Psychiatry & the Law (www.aapl.org) is a subsidiary of the American Psychiatric Association (www.psych.org). It is the principle professional organization dedicated to the advancing the practice of forensic psychiatry. Among its various educational and professional functions is the defining of what does and does not constitute the ethical practice of forensic psychiatry. The ethical conflicts in forensic psychiatry can be more complex and more nuanced than those of clinical psychiatry.
